In 2010, MHP were shortlisted for a design award by the Landscape Institute. We attended the awards ceremony in November 2010 and were thrilled to walk away with a highly commenced award for the Meadow Farm project.
The design brief for Meadow Farm was, in the words of the client, 'to develop a new homestead so in keeping and considerate to its rural environment that it would appear that it had been there for centuries'.
Construction of the new landscape for the farm commenced in the summer of 2008 and was completed in spring 2009. The new homestead comprises a total area of 12 hectares of farmland, restored woodland and new gardens linked with walks and rides which join house with countryside. Whilst the new house was to be a bold visual statement, it was the seasonally changing rural landscape that was to be the main focus of the design.
Located in an exposed rural Warwickshire landscape and lying over wet and heavy clay soil, the design and construction techniques were pushed to the limit during one of the wettest winters on record. The resulting house and landscape however are truly beautiful and the award is a fitting tribute to the hard work put in by all involved in the project.
